People used to predict the development of weather for centuries, but official forecasts were created just in the 19th century. Forecasts of weather represent a result of collecting quantitative data about the state of the atmosphere. With the use of scientific conception of atmospheric processes it becomes possible to project how the atmosphere will evolve. There are different kinds of weather forecasts depending on their period. Short-term forecasts are usually made for 36 hours. Long-term forecasts may represent a term of three or more months. The exactness of weather forecasts is in inverse proportion to their term.
